4.0 out of 5 stars Surprise! It actually works., October 26, 2006

This coffee grinder was an impulse purchase and I was fully prepared to return it because I didn't expect it to work as advertised. To my astonishment, the darned thing actually does a pretty good job. I have tried several coffee grinders over the years and have ended up giving all of them away to friends and family. I gave up on burr grinders because they are messy, hard to clean, produce a bitter powder, and are so noisy you almost need earplugs to use them. The blade grinders I have tried produced an inconsistent grind size and you have to experiment with the number of seconds it takes to get the grind right for the quantity of coffee you want to make. If you want to make more cups or less, you have to experiment all over again with the number of seconds you need to grind the beans. I ended up just having the coffee shop grind my Kenya AA beans for me and I buy smaller amounts so the coffee won't go stale before I can use it all.

This Mr.Coffee grinder is the only one... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Fresh Coffee At A Moment's Notice....A Good Buy...Kinda Loud, March 27, 2007
By
This review is from: Mr. Coffee IDS77 Electric Coffee Grinder with Chamber Maid Cleaning System, Black (Kitchen)
This review refers to Mr. Coffee - Coffee Grinder With Chamber Maid Cleaning System"

I received this coffee grinder this past Christmas, and have been using it everyday since. Sometimes, depending on how many people are drinking coffee, twice or more a day. I loved it so much from the start and wanted to review it right away, but managed to restrain myself, and after three months of everyday use, I think I can safely say, this grinder is great!

It's nice to have freshly ground coffee at a moment's notice. Even the smell is enticing. It allows you to measure just the amount of beans you need from 4 to 12 cups, and then you set the grinder to the amount and the grind - fine, medium, or coarse - depending on how strong you like it. This may take some experimenting to see get it exactly to your taste. For example I have found that 4 cups for me is actually closer to 2(or less), as I drink from a large mug and not a 6oz cup. There are recommendations in the... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the price, September 8, 2006

This review is from: Mr. Coffee IDS77 Electric Coffee Grinder with Chamber Maid Cleaning System, Black (Kitchen)
When I look for a coffee grinder, I look for 4 things:

1) Noise: This grinder is fairly noisy, but then again, so are most grinders. On a scale of 1-10 as far as noisyness goes compared to other grinders, I'd give it a 7.

2) Consistency: I like to grind my coffee coarse for french press; this grinder isn't very good at making a consistent coarse grind. However, if you want a regular grind for drip coffee or a fine grind for expresso, it does a really good job at that.

3) Static: I hate it whenever you pull the top off of a grinder to get the coffee out and tiny grind go flying everywhere--I've never had a problem with this grinder. You can open the top and pour the grinds out (which is difficult to do if you're trying to get it into a small container because the spout itself is not much different from the lip of a cup) or you can scoop the grinds out, which I preferto do anyway to double measure stuff (old habit).

5.0 out of 5 stars This is not a bad machine, March 8, 2010
This review is from: Krups XP1020 750-Watt Steam Espresso Machine with 4-Cup Glass Carafe (Kitchen)
Do not understand why this item has so many bad reviews. It is not a bad machine!

My last expresso machine was also a Krups steam powered. Lasted for 13 years until it fell apart last week (the prssure valve inside broke). For my replacement machine, I was looking at fully automatic ones (Magnifica, $900), pump based (like cuisineart em-200, $200), and steam powered (like this item, $50). After reading all the review and knowing how pump based machine works, I decided not to go for them. The main reasons are they require a lot of maintenance and they can break down easily. I just do not want high pressure stuff in my house. If it breaks down, it may take a month or two to fix it. After warranty is over, it is more expensive to fix than buying a new one. I basically want a reliable espresso machine which can last 10 years with very little mainenance.

I typically makes a few shots in the morning as soon as I get up. I just do not see how pump based or full... Read more

1.0 out of 5 stars Just Junk, December 27, 2008
By
This review is from: Krups XP1020 750-Watt Steam Espresso Machine with 4-Cup Glass Carafe (Kitchen)
I just got one of these for Christmas to replace a similar unit I used for years. The first time I tried it, it spewed water and coffee grounds all over. It practically blew up! I reduced the amount of coffee (a good Italian espresso, pre-ground fine), and the same thing happened. According to the trouble-shooting guide, the grind was too fine. I tried a coarse grind with no blowups, but the coffee was wimpy. Apparently, this espresso machine wasn't meant to make espresso coffee. This never happened with my previous unit. Pass this one up. It is simply a piece of junk.

I've made great cappuccino for many years using a similar machine. Better than store-bought. I thought the bad-mouthing reviewers simply didn't know what they were doing. Well, I filled my 1020 with the correct amount of water and used a reliably good espresso grind, turned on the machine and waited. And waited. And waited. Eventually, a pathetic dribble of coffee came down. At the appropriate time, I turned the knob to froth the milk. I burned my finger on the jet of steam issuing from the knob-hole on the side of the unit. A weak fizzle came out of the frothing nozzle which never increased in volume. I gave up here and went back to making the coffee - there was no more water to make steam. It had disappeared somewhere inside the machine and onto my countertop. This was such a complete failure that it was almost funny. Fortunately, I bought it locally, and can return it. I left little notes here and there in the packaging saying that this machine is a dud, and could burn... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice design, October 18, 2008
Krups KM4065 12-Cup Stainless-Steel Coffeemaker

This review is for the Krups KM 4065 coffeemaker. I believe this is the first of a new line of coffeemakers designed Bjorn Dahlstrom. At the moment, this coffeemaker is not on the Krups website and there is little information available on the web. I've only had it for a couple of days so here are my initial thoughts.

Pros:
1. Looks fantastic
2. Seems reasonably well built and the top door opens and closes smoothly
3. This has a different water gauge from the FM series and it works well and is easy to read (no bubbles).
4. I've filled the reservoir from both a Brita pitcher and from the included carafe without spillage. (That said the fill area is at the back near the door hinge)
5. Uses #4 Filters
6. Makes a great cup of coffee... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars One Loud Power Brew!, December 16, 2008
By
Stephanie (philadelphia) - See all my reviews
I got this coffeemaker from Wms Sonoma, who JUST started carrying it. I was excited b/c I like Krups machines and I wanted a glass carafe so I can see how much coffee I have left! My (fairly new) Cuisinart coffee pot recently fried itself, so I am avoiding those out of retaliation (I loved that one and am so mad it died!).

Here is what I discovered with this coffee maker...it looks very cool indeed. I like the buttons and display. The "aroma" button can be used to adjust for brewing a smaller pot (1/2 pot or less). The coffee I brewed was pretty strong, using the recommended number of scoops. I had to run about 3 cycles of water through it before using it to get rid of the plastic/electrical smell inside of the pot. (Ew.)

Here is the major drawback about this otherwise cool product...it is LOUD! And I mean L-O-U-D loud! I kept thinking it was going to blow flames out of the bottom and take off like a rocket. So, even though it had all of the... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Nice first impression, October 28, 2008

I have only had this unit for a couple of days but my initial usage has been very favorable. I have traditionally liked Krups coffee makers but always thought that the FM series was pretty lame. This is a definite upgrade. I agree with the previous reviewer in that the unit looks great and is well built. The water gauge is under the lid and looks like an LED meter, I like it. However I did not find the programming difficult at all and I also like the "dual start times" for auto brewing. One for the week and another for the weekend (if you get up later on the weekend)
Yes, it does make a nice pot of coffee

What I'm ambivalent about is the lid to open the top of the unit (to pour in the water and the coffee). It opens slowly and automatically when you push the "open" button and is kind of cool but...my fear is that this could present a long term issue, but right now this is just a worry. I also would prefer if the lid to the carafe was removable for cleaning,... Read more
